In 2022, India achieved a significant milestone with respect to patent filing by domestic applicants. For the first time in over a decade, the number of domestic patent filing surpassed the number of international patent filing at Indian patent office in the Quarter January - March 2022 as out of 19796 patent applications filed, 10706 were filed by Indian applicants against 9090 by non-Indian applicants. Despite this, a recent study suggests that only 35.5% of faculty members and 27.5% of postgraduate students of a considerable survey sample had maximum awareness regarding IPRs in India. Therefore, there is a dire need especially with respect to the academic community that requires a higher level of sensitization and exposure to IPR in India.
